Hermaton At Bosch Shine Arts Festival 2015
Hermaton exhibited at Bosch Shine Arts festival in s’Hertogenbosh showcases the game in a completely new way. In this iteration of the installation, seven giant flowerpots are covered with artwork that trigger different levels of the Hermaton game. Each flowerpot digitally augments into a virtual maze that players get to navigate around and explore new landscapes. Each level can be experienced by finding and switching on the various light-bulbs within this surrealistic maze.
The design inspiration for Hermaton aims to setup augmented landscapes that can be experienced in both physical and digital space. We cross boundaries of gaming and art to infuse physical space with new experiences and direction. The aim is to merge existing environment with digital interactions that change the way people interact and engage in public spaces. The correspondence between virtual and physical space plays an important role when designing the large scale trigger drawings covering the flower pots. These images illustrate hidden aspects of the virtual game environment which are derived from the shadows of the Hermaton maze. In this way the artwork depicts glimpses of unseen landscapes which can be brought to life via the app.
